Julie Meridian

The universe of my photographs is a small and intimate one, composed of ordinary natural specimens, such as leaves, sticks, pods, shells, flowers, nests, birds and insects. Looking closely through constantly shifting layers of time, memory and imagination, I hope to brush upon the mystery of the intangible life force that once existed in these objects. I am astonished each day by the transient and ephemeral nature of life, by its tenacity and endurance, by the inevitability of loss and death, and by the transcendence of beauty.

Vanessa Filley

Vanessa was born in New York City in 1975.  She received her BA from Oberlin College and spent her early career investigating human rights violations in prisons and jails.  Instead of following her intention to go to law school, she founded a clothing company of one-of-a-kind wear made from recycled fabrics. Her practice quickly evolved through the honing of her craft into mixed-media fine arts. Her work ranges from large scale sculptural installations to tiny embroidery pieces to poems and photographs.  Her photographic work allows her to design scenes, make costumes and conjure a certain sense of emotion and place. She is inspired by how history and memory shapes who we are in the present. In June of 2018 she completed a two month residency at the Frances Willard House Museum. She has been showing work, and has won a number of juror’s awards, throughout the US and internationally since 2015. In 2016 she was one of Photolucida’s Top 200. In 2018 she was one of Photolucida’s Top 50. She lives and works in Evanston, Il.

Art Consultation & Curated Selection-$300
and procurement

At Shumaker Curated, I believe art has the power to transform a space – adding soul, harmony, and an unmistakable sense of home. The Garden Walk is a bespoke consultation designed to help you discover the art that speaks to you – and brings magic into your home.

The process begins in The Garden Room, a curated gallery space offering a glimpse of the exceptional artists I represent. From there, we’ll walk through your home together. With a thoughtful eye, I’ll identify spaces where art can bring beauty, balance, and intention. Considerations of scale, color, and medium are all part of the process.

After our walkthrough, I will return with a selection of artworks personally chosen for your space – drawn from The Garden Room and beyond. Together, we’ll view the works in your home to experience their potential.
