HIGHLAND PARK MARKET PROPOSAL
This concept for the adaptive reuse of the Highland Park Theater building would create an indoor marketplace anchored by artisan vendors and producers providing meats, cheeses and baked goods further supported by local and seasonal growers through the use of kiosks and smaller scale tenant spaces. The creation of demised spaces with both interior and exterior exposures seeks to encourage year round access to the vendors and thereby expand both the visibility and accessibility of the market and the adjacent boutique tenants and businesses currently located along Central Avenue. Using year round venues for seasonal and specialty products is both a growing and sustainable model for local markets which both supports and sustains local business communities while adding to community building,
economic development incentives and increasing market values for current and future tenant space. By taking advantage of the structural configuration of the existing
theater structure as well as the exposure to the adjacent parking lot we envision an accessible and light filled market hall flanked by vendors and producers which create a shopping experience unique to the North Shore. Seasonally, access to the adjacent parking lot affords an opportunity for weekend or bi-weekly community or farmer's markets
which further support the community development concept of this marketplace.
